About Matt Newton

Matt Newton is a New York talent manager, acting coach, award-winning filmmaker, and author who has helped thousands of actors elevate their craft and build long-lasting careers in film and television. Currently Matt serves as talent manager at Atts Entertainment in New York City, representing a handful of well known actors in the industry.

As the founder of the prestigious MN Acting Studio in New York City, Matt has coached performers of all levels—from emerging talent to Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winners—bringing a practical, no-nonsense approach that has made him one of the most sought-after coaches in the industry.

Before becoming a full-time coach, Matt spent over a decade working steadily as a television and film actor, guest-starring on dozens of hit TV shows (including Gilmore Girls, Criminal Minds, Drake and Josh Go Hollywood, Royal Pains, The Americans, Ugly Betty, Lincoln Lawyer, and many others), and appearing in major studio films. His deep on-set experience informs every aspect of his coaching, giving actors a grounded understanding of how the business really works.

Matt is also the author of two bestselling books for actors—The No B.S. Guide to the Acting Biz (Forbes’ pic) and 10 Steps to Breaking Into Acting—both widely used as essential guides for navigating the industry. His work as a director and filmmaker has been recognized at festivals across the country, most recently winning Best Episodic at the Lighthouse International Film Festival for his pilot Dissocia.

In addition to running his studio and coaching privately, Matt serves as an adjunct professor at Western Connecticut State University, and the National Theatre Institute, where he teaches on-camera performance and career strategy.

Most recently, Matt was the on set coach for Ava Duvernay’s 4 part award winning mini-series “When They See Us,” for which Asante Blackk was nominated for an Emmy.
